NIHR Public Health Research Programme - Commissioned research calls Details (Hits : 512)

Last updated - 10 September 2009
Aims: The main focus of the Public Health Research (PHR) programme’s evaluation of public health interventions will be on effectiveness and cost-effectiveness. However, broader impact, as well as acceptability to the target community and wider society, are also important to the impact and sustainability of public health programmes, and, where relevant, will also be investigated.
Description: 09/3003 - What types of injecting and non-injecting equipment can effectively and cost effectively reduce the harm associated with injecting drug use?
09/3004 - What is the relative effectiveness and cost effectiveness of home based support programmes in improving the mental well being of older people living in their own homes?
*Type: Projects
*Duration: Unspecified
Funding: Unspecified.
*Amount: Unspecified       (Estimated total funds: £0)
Closing Date: (Past)
Comments: The cut-off date to submit outline proposals to both commissioned calls was Wednesday, 9th September 2009 by 1pm. Following this meeting shortlisted outline proposal applicants will be invited to submit a full proposal to be considered by the first Research Funding Board in 2010. Decisions from the Research Funding Board will be communicated to applicants 2-3 weeks after the meeting.
Restrictions: Public health evaluations are typically multi-disciplinary enterprises and are likely to draw on the expertise of numerous disciplines. The PHR programme suggests that teams proposing randomised controlled trials include input from an experienced trials unit. A commitment to team working is encouraged and applicants should consider a collaborative approach between several institutions.
